When There Is No Split Pot
Sometimes you see your opponent’s cards and think the pot will be split but your opponent suddenly takes everything and everybody seems to act like it is OK. Actually, it is really OK, and below we’ll regard the split-pot-like situations, which in fact are not what they seem to be.
Full Houses
Remember that the trips part of a full hose is the determinant. For example AcAsAhKcKd beats KhKsKdAdAh.
And even 3h3s3c2h2d beats AsAc2s2c2d. The trips part of the first full house is better.
But if the trips parts are equal we should estimate the pair part of the full houses. Thus if one player has QcQsQd4c4s and the other QcQhQd6d6h the second full house wins as the trips parts are equal but the pair part of the second one is better.
Two Pairs
It is very simple: the player who has the highest pair takes the whole pot. For example 2c2sJhJd2c beats 9c9hThTs. It’s that simple: the highest pair wins.
If the highest pairs of both players are equal, pay attention to the small pair. Imagine one player having KcKs4s4cJd and the other KhKd6c6h2c. In this situation the second player wins as he has the highest lower pair (sorry for the contradiction, but it is exactly like this).
In case both pairs are equal we need to pay attention to kicker. In the situation with one player having AsAcKdKh3s and he other AdAhKsKh2c the fist player wins as his kicker is higher.
Straights
It is very easy to define the winning straight, the highest one always being a winner. For example 9cTh beats 4c5c if the board is something like 6h7s8hKs2s as the first is higher.
By the way, remember that a straight flush beats simple flush. And if a player has Qs9c and his opponent enjoys As7s while the board is 8s9sTsJsQh the first hand wins. Of course the second player has an Ace-high flush. But in this situation straight flush is the best possible hand for both players and the first player has the higher one.
And one more. Remember that in poker it does not matter what cards (that is holecards of community cards) you use.
So, did you understand all the above? Do you still remember it? You really do?! Wow, you’re definitely the next WSOP winner man!
