1. Don’t forget what game you play

It’s not a joke. I mean – if you play hold’em – don’t forget about the limits. Because limit hold’em strategy and no limit hold’em strategy are two very different things. So – bear (I don’t mean an animal) in mind that if you play NL Hold’em you can go all-in. It’s a good option, believe me. Why? Let’s say you hit a royal flush. If it’s limit – you will not make much money of it. But if it’s No Limit… then it’s No Limit, baby… Sorry for the recursion.

2. Number of cards

Wait. Don’t pass this phrase at the speed of thought. It means much more than you can imagine. It’s very important for razz and stud games to calculate the number of EXPOSED cards. Want more complicated task? Ok, enjoy – try to calculate you pot odds if you have, say three hearts, then your opponent (there are 9 of them in total) shows another heart (not his heart, but a king of hearts, for example). (And the winner is… YOU if you got 3,75-to1… look – (41-9)/9)

3. Your position at the table

I don’t think I should remind you of it. But still if you have short memory or just didn’t read our article on different positions at a poker table – you can refresh you memory here.

4. Outs

I used to hear amateurs saying: “My outs are very bad…” Actually, I don’t know what they mean, because I always thought an out is just a way to improve a hand. How can it be bad? Just imagine – it was a very bad way to hit a full house…Yuh… You’re not a criminal, are you? But this seems to be the only one thing that can make a way to hit a premium hand bad. But in this case you don’t hit a hand, you hit your opponent.

5. Drawing dead

I don’t advice you to be drawing dead. But how can you avoid it if you don’t know what is it. Drawing dead means playing with the second-best hand. What is second-best hand? It’s a hand that will not win even if you hit you best draw. Ask yourself: “What is the best possible hand now?” Exactly this question. And you’ll never be dead… drawing dead.
