Let me introduce myself - I’m Daniel Thorn. I will be honest - I’ve never won at the WSOP. But for several years I’ve been making a living just playing poker online. When I deposit money I use only my AmEx Platinum. I think it tells volumes.
So, in this section I described the hands that were really played. I think it can be better than tons of poker literature. I tried to make it not only educational, but also entertaining. Read, enjoy and learn from my mistakes.

I said I don’t like folding pairs (even small), but you didn’t believe me. Now, I can prove it. So, I had a small pair, just a couple of sixes:

6s 6d

The first player raised. 4 of 9 fold. I wasn’t that sure about my sixes, but I raised. I thought it’s a good thing that four players have folded. So, two players after me called, others folded. Then there were no raisers. The flop came:

8c 4h 6h

Small pairs are great when they become a set. So did my pair. But I still think one of these three guys can have a pair of eights. My first opponent checks. Even if he’s going to check-raise… I’m not against. So, I raise, then there is one more raise. The fourth player cold calls (really – I think he wanted to check-raise). The first guy folds – I see I was mistaken – he just wanted a free card. We (me and the first guy) call. The turn:

8c 4h 6h As

I don’t want to believe in pocket aces. I bet, the rest call. So, three players at the river:

8c 4h 6h As 7d

I begin with betting. I still think my trips is the best hand now. The second player folds and the last calls. I can’t believe my eyes:

2h 6c

This is one of these stupid mistakes that I used to see in play money games. But it’s real money game. The conclusion: never ever go to the river when there are two overcards, when there is more than one bet to you and all you have is just a pair.
