Let me introduce myself - I’m Daniel Thorn. I will be honest - I’ve never won at the WSOP. But for several years I’ve been making a living just playing poker online. When I deposit money I use only my AmEx Platinum. I think it tells volumes.
So, in this section I described the hands that were really played. I think it can be better than tons of poker literature. I tried to make it not only educational, but also entertaining. Read, enjoy and learn from my mistakes.
Again – my favorite pocket pairs that I don’t like to fold as you remember – a couple of red ladies:
Qh Qd
I’m in late position. What can be better? Three players fold, two call. I raised. As usual. There are still too many players (5, myself included). But this just makes the pot bigger. Not very aggressive preflop. The flop comes:
Ts Qs 7d
What can be better hitting a set at the flop? Three ladies look very nutty. Now even pocket rockets can’t beat me. So, three players (together with the Big Blind) check to me. Oh, men, I think they will fold after a single bet. I bet. I was right – almost all players fold and it comes to a three-handed at the turn:
Ts Qs 7d Qc
In fact I’m already a winner, but how can I make more money on my four queens? One player checked to me. I bet. Why don’t I check-raise? Because now there is now use in it. Those who don’t have a hand will just check, those who have a hand will raise anyway. The third player calls, the first player just folds. See? Now think what could happen If I checked. The river, I even don’t care about the card that comes:
Ts Qs 7d Qc 5s
I exclude a flush threat the paired board must have scared all drawers. So, I check, Ted raises, I raise… So, all possible bets are mad. No one wants to let his opponent come at the showdown cheaply. Now guess what he had. Just a couple of tens:
