Let me introduce myself - I’m Daniel Thorn. I will be honest - I’ve never won at the WSOP. But for several years I’ve been making a living just playing poker online. When I deposit money I use only my AmEx Platinum. I think it tells volumes.
So, in this section I described the hands that were really played. I think it can be better than tons of poker literature. I tried to make it not only educational, but also entertaining. Read, enjoy and learn from my mistakes.

Big Slick is definitely not my favorite hand. I noticed that though it belongs to the 2nd group according to Sklansky and Malmuth, I usually lose with this hand. I’d rather fold Big Slick than a small pair. So, I had:

Ac Ks

So, as I said – it’s not my favorite hand, but I’m in the Big Blind. I can call and even raise. There is one bet to me, 5 players fold. I raise. The flop comes:

Th Js 7s

The Small Blind checks to me. There is no reason to give a free card, so I bet, one guy raises. The Small Blind folds. I call. The turn card comes:

Th Js 7s Tc

In fact, it’s a usual situation – I’m with the Big Slick with nothing but a straight draw. Now you see, why I don’t like this hand. I check, the player after me checks too. Then there are two bets. I should consider folding: a pair on the board. It’s not an open-end straight. So, only four cards can help me – one of four queens. Just one miracle card. And it comes:

Th Js 7s 10c Qd

So, three players at the showdown. It’s obvious now that I will win, but the most interesting thing – to see what your opponents have:

8h 9h

The other guy had:

3d 10d
