SEVEN CARD STUD RULES
It's true with all the Poker games, but never truer than with Seven Card Stud: the rules are barely the beginning. One should possess the ability of strategic thinking and constantly keep his or her gaming skills in practice. There are few really good stud players, but they have one thing in common with the beginners: every player of the game is still learning, even the masters.
Seven Card Stud is not so popular as, for example, Texas Holdem but it doesn’t mean it is a kind of second-rate variant of poker. More like it is vice versa. Texas Hold'Em is more razzle-dazzle game, but 7 Stud is the choice of toughie players. There are a lot of cards on the table, each street requires a different approach, and betting can become dangerous in no time. The game can be emergent and player should be restrained and cunning as well as extremely skillful to succeed in it.
The brief scheme of the process looks like this:
Each player receives two cards face down (pocket cards) and one card face up (the door card). At this point the dealer indicates which player will open the betting, determined by the lowest door card (the Low Card Must Bet rule). If there's a tie for low door, suits adjust the situation: spades over hearts, followed by diamonds, and finally clubs is the lowest. The players bet and the third street begins. Throughout the third street all bets and raises are fixed at the low betting limit. One more open card is dealt to each player (the fourth street). Unlike in the third street, the opener in the fourth and remaining streets is the high hand as determined by the open cards. The procedure is repeated during the fifth and the six streets. the card is dealt up and high hand opens. All bets and raises are made at the upper limit. Throughout the seventh street the last card (the river) is again a pocket card that is it is dealt face down. After the bets and raises have been resolved, the remaining players enter the showdown. The winner is the person who has the best 5-card hand under normal Poker rules. |
