OMAHA POKER RULES
Omaha is a very popular variation of poker. Its rules are very close to Texas Holdem, but still there are some differences, which make the game unique. Players often call this version of poker Omaha High to distinguish it from Omaha 8 or better (or Omaha 8).
The game itself can be divided into:
Limit Omaha High (a player may raise to a specific limit)
Pot Limit Omaha High (a player may raise to the amount of money in the pot)
The game is played with a typical 52-card deck. Each player is dealt gets four holecards instead of two. Betting rounds and turning of the cards from the flop process like in Texas Holdem. At showdown, each player's poker hand is the best five-card hand he can make from exactly three of the five cards on the board, plus exactly two of his own cards. Unlike Texas Holdem, a player cannot play only one of his cards with four of the board, nor can he play the board, nor play three from his hand and two from the board, or any other combination.
The brief scheme of the game process looks like this:
Each player receives four personal cards face down. After the first betting round the dealer burns a card, turns three board cards making a flop. Then goes the second betting session after which the dealer burns another card and opens one more community card (the turn, 4th street). The players bet for the third time and taking away the first card in the deck the dealer turns over the last card from the community (the river, 5th street). After the last betting round the game ends with the showdown that is every remaining player shows his or her hand. The hand must be exactly the combination of two holecards and three community cards.
As the game is very close to Texas Holden, one should be sure he is familiar with Holdem rules to be able to play Omaha successfully. |
