Online poker is now a familiar concept, as is televised poker coverage; but interactive poker on television? It’s coming to a television set near you (if you live in the United Kingdom) soon, if satellite broadcaster BskyB has it’s way.
"This is an interactive television application that works—we just have to get it into the marketplace—where you can play live poker in tournament-style formats with other Sky customers." So said Rupert Murdoch recently. Murdoch’s News Corporation is a large part-owner of BskyB, and, along with the brocasting company, are banking on the current success of a BskyB’s existing fixed-betting channel, Sky Vegas, to be a forecast for future success.
Future poker enthusiasts will have a tough TV choice; catch the latest tournament, or play a few hands of Hold’em a few channels over?
