It seems that you needn’t be the straight-arrow pub without scandals or shows with naked babes to become famous and well-invested by the government. At least in Australia. Recently a topless bar in Queensland received a $500,000 grant from the federal authorities for an honorable aim – attracting tourists to the region and enlivening the depressing industry.
The competitors of the pub are mightily indignant – this will surely retract a significant part of their customers and deprive them of income. Moreover, end use of the money appeared to be an enlargement of space for poker machines – and this is whereas all Australia fights against gambling! Add to this the fact that the pub, which received the grant, is widely known for its topless barmaids and performances by the "Stump Bikini Babes". All above does not encourage the growth of high morale values among the population.
The authorities’ opinions divided. Deputy Prime Minister considers the grant useful for the country and for development of tourist industry; opposition regional development spokesperson says that money was used improperly and was not intended for gambling at all. My personal opinion – the last one is right. Maybe they should have found another way to attract new people.
