Poker tournament in Houston, Texas, which was to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Foundation, was cancelled because it was illegal. It is strange that the organizers hadn’t noticed illegal status of the event before the beginning of the preparations.
This tournament pursued noble objectives – it could raise more than $500,000 for women who suffer from breast cancer. Organizers sold more than $100,000 in tickets and expected many players to come and gamble. But they forgot that poker for charity is illegal in Texas, unless the tournament is held at private apartments, and neither group nor house obtains part of the funds. These conditions weren’t kept, so after all was done and just ready to start – the tournament was cancelled. Strange, really strange. How could the sponsors be so shortsighted? Well, at least, they say that will the last case and this confusion won’t ever happen again.
