Small city in the state of Oregon started campaign for poker. Part of citizens made a petition to Corvallis City Council to support legalization of public poker playing. It will be not usual poker – it will be a low-stakes poker for social purposes. The spearhead claims that this casual game of social poker helps people to come off their TV-sets and computers and starts interaction. It will for sure decrease social isolation and loneliness. Though it is a gambling, it makes people seek other people – not drawn or virtual – live people to chat, play and socialize.
8th of March is the day when the Council’s human services committee plans to meet to set up rules to hinder any high-stakes games that could lead to murders and overindulgence.
Let’s hope that the game will be a welcome addition to a city social scene not only in Corvallis but in other cities.
