Though poker is very popular and spreads through the world with the light speed, not all societies and social groups accept it. Church points out that more and more adherents acquire their taste for gambling.
The LDS Church - the Church of Jesus Christ of Last-days saints - held a conference in Utah where the problem of gambling and poker and online poker in particular was discussed. They came to a conclusion that it is a sin because it gives young people the illusion that money can be easily earned from almost nothing, so that they even travel outside the state for gambling. Add to this TV shows and multiple tournaments which are very popular. The church president considers this a useless time spending and offers to replace it with reading, music and different outdoor activities. The students will have no time for poker and the problem will be solved.
But gambling was stronger, and influenced even on the church congregants who cannot pull themselves up and bought some lottery tickets to win money to pay bills - but fortune wasn't on their side and they spent their money in vain. The question was raised whether playing for nothing is a sin or not, but they didn't come to an agreement.
So, don't gamble to avoid the wrath of the church, and better play chess or take a walk with a handsome neighbor.
