Almost all US states try to fight somehow against gambling and gambling addiction in particular. North Carolina has no program which is aimed to help compulsive gamblers, though it actively lobbies different bills on lotteries. The senators are worried about it and plan to include the proposal of program in the next hearing.
One of the senators said that he always included the point about treatment program in the lottery bill but all of the bills were banned, so no steps were made. In general, no real steps to solve the problem of addicts were made before at all; some senators can’t even define the gambling addiction itself, calling everything with this term. The last discussion came to the opinion that there is almost no influence of lotteries on compulsive addiction – so there is no need to debate about it dealing with lottery. Thus, the problem exists, but no-one wants to settle it.
