Another evidence of severity of American legislation was shown recently. Michigan State Liquor Control Commission prohibits playing Texas hold'em in bars and taverns.
A tournament was cancelled in a tavern because no-one can hold a tournament or play poker in a place where alcohol is served.
The tavern owner and Commission have different points of view on the situation. First one says it wasn't gambling - no paying, only play. Second one objects to this - it involved reward (main prize was a scooter), chance and consideration.
There are now great penalties both for players and taverns for holding any gambling tournaments or games. The prohibition is enhanced by letters and warnings by phone.
So, seems like the only way for players is to play at home behind curtains and closed doors.
