Sometimes good intentions can end with confusion. This happened in Canada, where gambling addicts of Prince Edward Island have been trying to acquire help calling the wrong telephone number for three years. The misconception emerged only recently.
All this time poor people called to a counselors’ service paid for by the government in Nova Scotia. Those who work at this line couldn’t simply answer – “This is not the help you want to get. It’s the wrong place to call at!” and tried to provide assistance or give a piece of advice. They notified the callers about special service for them in their province. The mistake of the number was revealed, and measures were assumed to amend it. Now the separate local help line is accessible to gambling addicts who need consultation.
