Poker brings money not only to the players, but to the government - in the form of the taxes. The governor of Louisiana, Kathleen Blanco, will make a maximum profit from the poker and other gambling games by increasing tax rates.
The bill concerns video poker, cigarettes and alcohol taxes. They will be increased. This will raise about $120 million for payments to the social needs - mostly to the education sphere. The details haven't been fully worked out yet, and the resolution still isn't adopted. But the day of the approval is not far off, and, as soon as all the work is done, "sin promoters" will pay more, or maybe conceal their income to pay less - though the latter seems less believable.
Video poker was only the first game, which will pay more for its existence. Race tracks and slots are waiting for their turn.
