New York State increases funding of problem gamblers' help program. The Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services upheld the decision to increase investments from $2.3 million to $3.3 million this year.
These numbers, even if they are increased, can't even come close to the cost of state lottery advertising (about $17 million), so enlargement of funding can possibly bring a little benefit and help to decrease the number of gambling addicts in the state. For now, the only advertising available to gambling help center is a telephone directory, and that is less than needed. Hope that fresh infusion will enliven the treatment program and give it the second breath.
