Though any gambling isn't welcomed by the religion, Maryland local authorities are debating on the bill that will enable poker playing in the churches.
It will mean the source of big income for local charities. The bill orders that the tournaments can be held only once a year. Organizations that have rights to hold them are churches, civic, fraternal and veterans groups.
Charity organizations really believe that poker games will help to raise big sums and hope that the legislation will enable to hold the tournaments once a month, not once a year. Even $50,000 mean a lot for a small church or a volunteer charity organization, and this is not a big amount for a poker game - so it is a great opportunity to gain profits. While playing there will be no money passing through the hands of the players, but the outcome will be real money for noble goals.
So, if the hearing will end in favor of the bill, charity will certainly gain a lot. And maybe it will push forward the same bills in other states.
